Crushed Walnut Shells for Pin Cushion Stuffing and Dying

For years the crushed shells of the edible Walnut have had a variety of uses from polishing metal through to skin exfoliant, and now we have discovered its benefits as a stuffing for the humble pin cushion! &#13;&#13;Having read about this amazing 'stuff' on sewing forums I was keen to try it out for myself. I had a devil of a job tracking down a source in the UK but having tried it I can agree - Crushed Walnut shells make a wonderful fill for pincushions! &#13;&#13;These walnut shell 'chips' are around 1mm cube and are small enough to fill all your pin-cushiony nooks and crannies but not so small they pop through your seams. They have the most naturally gorgeous earth colour and has a very very faint but pleasant woody aroma that I find quite pleasant. They feel dry to the touch, are incredibly lightweight but have a mildly abrasive quality that makes them a perfect choice for keeping your pins clean and sharp.&#13;&#13;Pin cushions make lovely handmade gifts for friends, family and teachers so why not consider making a few this year! &#13;&#13;Packaged by volume these crushed walnut shells are available in bags of 140ml ... which weighs almost 100g and is enough to fill a 7-8cm square pin-cushion.&#13;&#13;Sold in units of 140ml with discounts available for larger quantities.&#13;
